Is this year your year?
With a new year comes new momentum. Kind of like a societal energetic wavelength we’re all eager to ride.
We set up our goals, get really ambitious, and feel the zest of our potential.
But you and I well know that falling off the bandwagon and abandoning our self-discipline is a very common occurrence.
The weight of life’s challenges breaks us down.
There’s not enough hours in the day.
We resign to getting back at it tomorrow….
Then tomorrow becomes another tomorrow…
and suddenly it’s the end of the year and you’re no farther along than you were on January 1st.
But what if we could work towards our goals together?
What if we had scientifically proven exercises to help our minds and bodies move towards wellness with ease?
Your Best Possible Self
It doesn’t take a new year’s momentum to begin shifting your mind and creating a canvas for transformation. I can personally bear testament to that.
If you’ve been following along on my journey to London to begin my Master’s program, you’d know I’m studying Positive Psychology.
The beauty of being in this Positive Psychology Masters Program is that I get to share with YOU some of the coolest, most well-researched methods of transforming the mind towards self-actualization and sustainable well-being.
As part of my program, I’m required to learn and complete some psychological interventions (or goal-oriented exercises) that are scientifically proven to help clients reach their goals.
One intervention I just completed is called “Best Possible Self.”
And fam, it was MAGICAL!!
So what is the "Best Possible Self" exercise?
Well it’s a tried and true researched Positive Psychology Intervention (PPI) which basically has you follow this particular visualization prompt and journal about it:
“Think about your life in the future. Imagine that everything has gone as well as it possibly could. You have worked hard and succeeded at accomplishing all of your life goals. Think of this as the realization of all of your life dreams. Now, write about what you imagined.”
I challenged myself to do this daily for one week and let me just tell you, it really made a difference for not only the way I felt, but the way my days would manifest.
I could tell that I was so much more resilient, much less worried, and had so much more creative flow and direction, which I have been personally craving as of late.
See, since moving here to London a little over a month ago to pursue my Masters, and possibly my PhD, I was going through SO much change.
All the things that had been my normal for, like, my whole 30 years, got completely upended:
No car, no job, no friends, no family. New country, new foods, new weather, new ways of being. jet lagged, shoes stolen, and nowhere to live.
Yeah, A LOT of change, A LOT of stress, and A LOT to overwhelm little old me.
But honestly, taking the time to resist looking at my phone first thing, taking the time to let the sun bathe my eyes, and switch on my visualization instead, truly set the tone for a more hopeful, more expansive day.
And it was funny how as the days went on, I would really notice a difference in not only my mindset about little obstacles that presented themselves, but the fact that I would witness so much more beauty, opportunity, and ways to appreciate where I’m at, what I’ve accomplished, and how I can get one step closer to my best possible self!
Oh, and just to add some proof to this pudding, here’s a few things I manifested through this exercise:
Finished my Module 2 Workbook (which, if you’re not in the Master Class, I put in so much heart and love into the writing, exercises, and design that they take serious thought and time!)
Created a new 2-Day Workshop for this community
Two dinner parties I had on my Vision Board
Deep chats over coffee with a new friend
A spooky slumber party with one of my pen pals (also something on my Vision Board)
A FREE gym pass
A ton of free food lol
And I met a great potential match through mutual new friends ;)
Ready to try it yourself?
Here is your prompt:
Take a few deep breaths in and out. Inhale. Exhale. Notice your breath and let go of any distractions. Take your time and allow yourself to relax.
Now consider this, whether in your mind or as you journal:
“Think about your life in the future. Imagine that everything has gone as well as it possibly could. You have worked hard and succeeded at accomplishing all of your life goals. Think of this as the realization of all of your life dreams. Now, write about what you imagined.”
Here is your goal:
Perform this Best Possible Self intervention for 7 days, once a day, first thing in the morning or right before falling asleep.
Journal after each session and take note of your progress.
Share your experiences in the Sister Siren Collective Facebook Group.
