What must you still make peace with?

Therapy, Defined

“A therapist is a broad umbrella term for professionals who are trained - and often licensed - to provide a variety of treatments and rehabilitation. Issues addressed frequently originate from the client’s past and are treated via standardized processes. Therapists can be psychoanalysts, marriage counselors, and social workers, among many other specialties.” - Coach Training World Training Manual

Though I love psychology, shadow-work, and the brilliance of what healing trauma can do in a person’s life, I am not a licensed professional in these practices.

Below are some helpful distinctions if you’re unsure about Coaching vs. Therapy

Distinctions.

What I can do.

I can help you touch on past narratives and limiting beliefs that are holding you back from your present and future success. I can help you improve your performance. I can help you be your own problem-solver and change-maker. I can provide advice on specific niche subjects that I have a wealth of knowledge in. I can work with you to overcome blocks that are preventing you from thriving here and now. I will help draw the line between coaching and therapy, and make sure you’re provided with the resources that will best serve you and your wellbeing.

What I can’t do.

I cannot do trauma work with you. I cannot diagnose you. I cannot heal the past wounds that continue to create destructive patterns in your life. I cannot provide medical advice. Licensed therapists are better equipped to work through the difficulties of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and many other varieties of mental illness. However, I can work with you as you simultaneously work with a therapist. I personally believe therapy is beneficial for literally everyone. My ideal client has either gone through therapy or is currently in therapy with a licensed professional.

This is what I tend to tell people: Therapy is what helps you deal with the past so that you can be okay in the present. Then often people go, “Well, now what?” That’s where coaching comes in. Coaching is that next step forward, helping propel you into your ideal future.

I am committed to supporting you, even if that means I can’t work with you.

If at any point along our journey I detect an area of your life that would be better supported by a licensed professional, I will let you know. We may be able to continue coaching, but with the stipulation that you are also receiving support from a therapist. We can also look at resources in your local area together so that we find the best fit for you.

Not sure if therapy is the proper path for you?

Or maybe coaching is exactly what you’re ready for.
